EVENT: OMG Malachite

This week we added Malachite to our Oakland Metaphysical Group’s practice. Together with the grounding effects of Tigers Eye, Malachite stirred up the energies in our hearts. For some it was too much, for others it was not enough...

Malachite is a beautiful, green-banded stone which is an altered form of copper. Malachite occurs when copper reacts with carbonated water or limestone. More water in the copper makes the green lighter; less water in the copper makes the green darker. The black bands of Malachite are ones that formed without water.

The weathered green you see on copper roofs is a form of Malachite. Bronze objects partially or wholly converted into malachite have been found at ancient Assyrian sites.

Malachite is a 3.5 - 4 on Mohs Scale of Hardness, a relatively soft stone, easily scratched. It is the same hardness as Calcite or Fluorite. Protect it from temperature changes & prolonged sunshine.

Zaire is a popular country for Malachite, but it is also found in many other places around the world.

Energetically:

Please keep in mind they are quite pricey as this is a soft stone so it's harder to work with carving wise. CRYSTALS: Broken Malachite

QUESTION: Hi Sheila, I bought that Malachite ring from you before you moved....remember the one I was obsessed with?! Anyway a few weeks later I saw a crack down the middle....I assumed I hit it against something although I'm not sure what. Anyway, it wasn't tooo obvious and it's been like that since June. I wear it all the time and I feel its goodness :) Anyway lately i've been thinking and organizing my thoughts and my heart... Then I was getting my hair done today at Aveda Salon and they had these Ayruveda oils...and I put on a Harmony oil..for balance. Then I was driving home and when I parked in front of my apt I heard something fall next to my drivers seat....I pulled up the malachite stone which was cracked down the middle into two pieces...it fell out of my ring. Now, is there any meaning behind it?? is it what I believe it to mean?? or was it just broken?? haha Your insight means alot to me.

ANSWER: Hi! I'm so glad to hear from you.

Well, when a stone breaks, it means that it has absorbed either too much energy and you need another of the same stone OR it can mean that it is done working for you and you can move on to another healing stone. Only you will know which one it is!

When we use crystals for healing, we are constantly cleaning them out of any negative energies they have collected from the client so that they don't get overwhelmed and break. As you probably know, Malachite is known as the "power stone" and it has a very strong energy to help release emotional traumas of the heart. If your heart is in a blocked state, it may be that Malachite is helping to transmute a lot of this energy and as it was not cleaned out energetically, it may have broke. On the other hand, if your heart is pretty balanced, it could mean that you may no longer need Malachite.

Malachite is a relatively soft stone, so if you think it has nothing to do with energies, it could just mean that a physical crack occurred if you were unintentionally hitting your ring against a hard surface! Either way, you can now bury the stone in the earth to help your plants grow or throw it out into the sea to be back in nature :)

CRYSTALS: Bitter Heart

QUESTION: Hi - I have purchased stones from you recently, I wanted to know what YOU would recommend as a healer. I am going through a very bitter divorce and one of my children has moved out of my house which has left me broken hearted, bitter, hateful, the list goes on. What would you recommend for me - I have been using rose quartz, amethyst and crystals - not finding much release. I also use obsidian to block negative thoughts coming my way. I would love your suggestion.

ANSWER: Hello, thank you for your email and your purchases. I highly suggest using Malachite for such strong emotions you are feeling. Malachite is a power stone used for releasing such harsh emotions and eventually bringing forgiveness. I recently suggested the same to a friend who went through a bad relationship, and she is now starting to feel the positive effects of the power stone! But beware, that this is a very intense crystal which can bring up all of those negative emotions at once. You may feel out of balance for a while as the emotions are being released, so don't fear, just let it take its course. I would also suggest using Rose Quartz and Aventurine to alleviate some of this intense energy release.

So, clean, charge and program Malachite as you would any stone and then place it over your heart while lying down, imagining all those negative emotions being drawn out by the crystal. Let your mind "re-live" these emotions up to 3 times, and then let them go. You may still feel them, but try to look at it from a "third person" point of view, sort of like a movie. Your healing will take as long as your own mind's willingness to let go, but Malachite will be a powerful aid in the process. While not doing direct healing work, I would suggest wearing a Malachite pendant or necklace.

For me, Obsidian is a bit more protective of outside forces. For your own negative thoughts, I would suggest Apache Tears, which are also great in releiving grief and bringing forgiveness.

CRYSTALS: Malachite Poison

QUESTIONS: Do you have any good links to get some more information on Malachite? I noticed you mentioned to be careful when using this crystal. Thank you.

ANSWER: Hi! Excellent question, Malachite is only dangerous when it is in fine powder form and you are breathing it in like asbestos. As polished jewelry it poses no danger, but if you have a raw piece, I would not suggest making a gem elixir to drink. Instead, use the indirect method in which you place the crystal in a glass jar and then in the water. In any case, it's only when you work with raw Malachite in large doses for long periods of time like in the mines or a factory that you really need to worry. We do mention it on our site just for you to be aware of this fact!

QUESTION: Hi Sheila,Got your email ids through the google searches.I was searching to understand what the happens if a malachite breaks.I had a piece of malachite which was doing wonders for me health wise.It fell from my wifes and and broke into pieces.Trying to understand what it means for either of us.Sorry to bother you with this.thanks.

ANSWER: Thank you for your email. When crystals break it either means that you are done with its energies or you have not cleaned it out often enough. If it absorbs too much unwanted energies, the crystal can not take all the pressure and will crack. Make sure to always clean and charge your crystals on a regular basis if you know that it is doing active healing work.

Malachite is especially powerful in removing emotional traumas. You can imagine the kind of vibrations that this removal absorbs!

I would not worry, if you feel you still need the help of Malachite in your healing work, be sure to pick out another piece and regularly clean it. If you think that you no longer need its aid, you can move on to another crystal.

As for the broken crystal, place it back in the earth where it came from - bury it in your garden, potted plant, throw it into the seas...

ANSWER: Hi, to recharge this crystal, you can place it in the sunlight, in the moonlight or on another crystal cluster. We say be careful of placing this piece in water because it's not fully polished and the raw parts may or may not dissolve in liquid. Once the stones are tumbled smooth, they are usually resistant to water. For example, your Malachite Bowl is polished smooth and meant for water!
