The Root Chakra is
connected to physical energy and grounding to the present moment. The
Root Chakra links us to the physical world, solidity and support -
especially to the physical body. It is the foundation of energy. We are
like trees, we need to have strong deep roots to grow. Our social roots
are so complex and chaotic these days that we must lie our roots in the
Earth to have a sense of place and meaning and stability.

Root Chakra:
- Located at the base of the spine.
- Keeps us rooted to earth, but we don’t want to live only in this chakra which would lead to the ruling of power, territory, violence and ego. We want a balance of all the chakras.
- Represents primitive instinct, survival.
- Roots us to the earth to realize our dependence on the earth's nourishment and care.
- Associated with adrenal gland which generates fight of flight response.
- Associated with the color red, which is the first color of the rainbow, the lowest color of the spectrum, color of blood, life.
When Root Chakra Malfunctions:
You may experience obesity, hemorrhoids, constipation, greed, waste and
destruction of nature. You may be finding a sense of belonging through
belongings rather than being rooted to the Earth and feeling at peace
with your true nature.
When Root Chakra is Open: You have the ability to let go of past feelings, repressed anger. You feel a part of nature and connected to other people; a sense of belonging.
Energizing the Root Chakra:

Energizing the Root Chakra:
- Use Red, Brown or Black Crystals like Jasper, Ruby, Birds Eye Rhyolite
- Use Grounding Crystals like Bloodstone, Hematite and Pyrite
- Physical Exercise
- Walking on the Earth, especially barefoot
