Amazonite (or Amazon Stone) is the only blue-green crystal and the only gem variety of Microcline Feldspar. Microcline is the most common Feldspar. It is used in ceramics and as a mild abrasive.
Like Moonstone, Amazonite has a distinctive sheen caused by
thin layers of Orthoclase and Albite. This iridescence is also known as
Schiller Sheen and opalescence.
Although it may have been named for the Amazon river,
Amazonite is not found in the Amazon. Amazonite is found in Colorado, Russia,
Madagascar, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Australia and Namibia.
